In Other News

or lack there of...Shannon is due this Thursday and there is no sign that my niece will be making her appearance anytime soon. Of course that doesn't mean much, but Shannon is feeling great and Sophie seems pretty comfy in there for now. I will post more info as soon as we have some!

Welcome Lucy!

I am late on this post, but wanted to wait until I had a picture. Jeff, Lorene, and big brother Ryan welcomed Lucy Arlene into the world on July 25th. Two pushes was all it took so we are expecting many more cousins out of Lorene and Jeff. Lucy is beautiful and a really good sleeper which is a plus. Here is a picture from this past week when Ethan and I went for a visit.

Long Weekend in Boston

Joe and I went to Boston last weekend for our anniversary. We thought it would be fun to go somewhere just the two of us. We didn't want to go far since it was the first time we were leaving Ethan. He had fun at home with my parents and Joe's mom who split the time watching him. We both love Boston so it was fun to go back and visit.

We stayed at the Liberty Hotel which until recently was the Charles Street Jail in Beacon Hill. It was a very neat place to stay and our room was actually in the section that used to be the jail cells.

These are two pictures of the lobby. Everything was wood and wrought iron. Some of the jail cell bars were used in the lobby and in the restaurant we went to for dinner one night, "Clink".

Joe's cousin, Laura, had just been to Boston and told us about a new bar that had opened at Fenway Park. It is called the Bleacher Bar and it looks out into center field. Joe has never been to a game there so we thought it would be fun to go so he could see the inside of the stadium.

We went on a "Ghosts and Graveyards" tour while we were there. We wanted to do something different since we had been to Boston before and have seen most of the city. It turned out to be a lot of fun. They show you places around the city that are haunted or where different murders have occurred. We also toured two of the oldest cemetaries in the city and were told stories of people who are buried there.

It turns out that our hotel and another hotel that we have stayed at, The Omni Parker House, were two of the places we learned about. That didn't surprise me, since that place looks exactly like the hotel in the movie "The Shining". Also, the last murder that the Boston Strangler committed took place a couple blocks away from where we were staying. It was creepy but also very entertaining.

This is one of the tourguides at the place where Paul Revere is buried.

More of Boston

We took a tour of Beacon Hill, which is my favorite part of the city. Everything is so old and beautiful. You are only blocks from the busy streets of the city, but it is so quiet there it is amazing. They do their best to preserve the buildings so that they look the same as they did when they were originally built. All the lamps are gas and the sidewalks are brick and stone. The tour we took included photograpy tips and suggestions. Since I am addicted to taking pictures, I have more than a few I could post here.

This is a "hidden house" on one of the streets. This picture is taken through an iron gate down a long alley to the front door.

This was the first house built in the city.

There were many doors like this one in Beacon Hill. They are small doors that used to lead to service kitchens where the servants worked. People still use a lot of them today as their front doors. I can't imagine trying to get furniture through there.

This is John Kerry's house. He lives in the most exclusive part of Beacon Hill called Louisburg Square. This house is tall and skinny but still over 13,000 square feet. The houses in this neighborhood start at around ten million dollars.

This is Acorn Street which is the most photographed street in Boston. The road is still made of cobblestone which was easier for the horses to walk on.

Harvard

We went over to Cambridge and visited the Harvard campus on Saturday afternoon. I feel smarter just having been there.

This is a church on campus that I thought was really pretty.

and a picture that actually has Joe in it...

That night we went to dinner in the North End. Here is a picture of the Paul Revere statue with the Old North Church in the background. I was using Joe's shoulder as a tripod and after a few beers he wasn't the steadiest.

Ethan Kisses

One day last week I went to pick Ethan up at my mom's after work. I was laying on the floor pretending to be sleeping, fake snoring and the whole bit. My mom was playing with Ethan and told him to "go wake Mommy up with a big kiss". He crawled right over to me and planted his first ever big, wet, open mouth kiss on my lips. It was the best moment yet. I love Ethan kisses!

Another funny thing that he has been doing is playing with belly buttons. He loves to lift my shirt up in the morning and find my belly button. The other day I told him to go find Daddy's belly button. He went over to Joe and started playing with his nipple. I guess we need to keep working on the location of the belly button.
