I am not sure if my dad has ever looked at this blog, but I will post this anyway. I had been saying that I wanted to buy Ethan a basketball hoop for the summer because he loves to play with the neighbors' big one that Joe has to pick him up to use. My dad decided to get him one for Easter. When he brought it over I realized that it was so much bigger than what I had in mind. I was thinking a little two footer, but of course the one my dad bought can extend to 6 feet. I figured we would still be picking him up to use it for the next year or so. Well, my dad was right again...

So Proud
I was just saying last time that it amazes me how much little kids can learn and remember. Ethan can now count to ten which is crazy to me because he couldn't even count to one a few days ago. All of the sudden now he can go all the way to ten. I was so excited thinking that he is the smartest little boy ever and then tonight when we gave him a bath he proceeded pick up a cup of the dirty, soapy, pee water, drink it and say "yummmmy, water". So proud.

Happy Easter!
Here are some pictures from Easter since I am a little behind. We made an attempt at decorating eggs but Ethan just wanted to throw them. He also didn't understand that you had to let them dry before you could touch them. I think that frustration resulting in much of the throwing.

On the other hand, he did love his Easter baskets and Easter egg hunts that we had throughout the weekend. Here he is at my mom's house where we had an egg hunt for all the cousins.

This is just too much fun...

Are there any more eggs out here?

18 Months
Ethan turned 18 months on the 9th. He had his check up and is almost 33 pounds and close to 35 inches tall. He is such a big boy. It has been so much fun just watching him over the last few weeks. He is saying so many new words every day. He can pretty much repeat everything you ask him to, which is just the greatest thing for Uncle Kevin. He is starting to put words together. His favorite saying is "I don't know". He knows all his letters, animals and body parts. It is really amazing how much their minds can learn in such a short amount of time. I am constantly surprised by the things he knows and remembers.
I think 18 months has also marked the beginning of the terrible two's. He has started to throw tantrums and get really mad at me when I don't let him do certain things. He climbs all over everything and gets into everything he shouldn't. (I walked next door today and he was in the neighbors' garage playing with their plunger.) He keeps trying to climb into his crib, but has yet to try to climb out (knock on wood). He loves opening and closing doors, including the car door. He unlocked and opened it one day while we were at a stoplight. I had no idea I needed to be using the child locks already.
I am just happy that the weather is getting nice and he can use up some of his energy running up and down the street with all the neighborhood kids. He is such a boy and I am loving it.
Here are his 18 month pictures and also a couple from Easter.

Akron Zoo
We bought a zoo pass this year which gets us in to both the Cleveland and Akron Zoos. My mom and I took Ethan to the Akron Zoo the other day when it was really nice out. It is a great Zoo for little kids. It is small and walkable and everything is on their level. They can see the animals without being held up and the animals are really close. It is very cool. They don't have the big animals like elephants or giraffes but Ethan loves it.
Here is Ethan on one of those rope bridges. I used to be very afraid of these and kinda still am. He didn't care one bit that his little leg could have gotten sucked in and eaten by the rope monster at any time...

The lion sunning himself

Ethan playing newscaster...he's a natural

Gigantic turtle that I loved but he didn't really care much about since it hardly looks real it moves so slowly.

CVS
Many of you know that Ethan has been having vomiting issues for awhile now. He has now been officially been diagnosed with Cyclic Vomiting Syndrome. He started throwing up when he was 8 months old. He would wake up around 4 am and throw up for a few hours and then it would be over and he would be fine. He did this at the same time of the month for three months in a row. At first, I had thought he was just sick, but when it started being exactly a month a part I thought maybe it was something more.
He had already been seeing a Pediatric Gastroenterologist because of the reflux he had since he was born. It just happens that the Cleveland Clinic runs one of three CVS clinics in the country. People drive from all over to come here. We are so lucky that we have them here. Most doctors have never even heard of CVS.
Since he has been about 11 months old, we have been doing all sorts of tests to rule out anything other than CVS. He is one of the youngest patients they have with it and since he can't really tell us how he feels, it has been really difficult. He has had many blood tests, ultrasounds and other tests to look for anything and everything that could cause persistant vomiting. Luckily all the tests have come back fine. He just had his last test, a brain MRI, in which he had to be sedated for. The results came back great and everything other than CVS has been ruled out.
Basically, Cyclic Vomiting is a migraine of the stomach that affects mostly children. Joe and I both have history of migraines within our families and it is very hereditary. The kids will throw up for a certain amount of time and then be fine in between episodes. The episodes are usually either triggered by something like food or stress, or they are more cyclic, like Ethan's. The only thing we have noticed is that he is cranky for a few days prior to getting sick.
We are lucky, so far, Ethan's episodes have been once a month for a few hours. Some kids have them every week or for many days straight. Many of them have to be hospitilized each time they have an episode. We have only had to make one trip to the ER for some tests they needed while he was having an episode. I just pray they don't get any worse as he gets older.
Most of the time, the stomach migraines will turn into headache migraines around the time they are teenagers. Rarely, they will go away altogether. He is on medication right now and we are not sure if it is helping yet or not. Each month I just hope it will be longer between episodes than the last time. Here is a link to the Cyclic Vomiting Association if you are interested in learning more:

These are a couple of pictures from Ethan's MRI appointment. I tried to get one of him bending over with his little butt hangin out, but he wouldn't cooperate.
