This past Sunday was Sophie's Baptism. She looked so adorable and was really good for the entire day. She wore the matching girl's Christening dress to the outfit that Ethan wore. What a good purchase that was. Who would have thought we would be able to use them both within a couple years.
We took Ethan to church for the first time since his own Baptism. Now I know why. We were in the cry room which is way too dark to see anything except all of the food left on the floor by other children from the previous three Masses. Of course Ethan thought that this was his own personal buffet table of pretzels, goldfish and cheerios. Gross. It was pure chaos. I think I will wait to take him again until...oh wait, Lucy's Baptism next weekend.

Trip to the Zoo
Since our last trip to the zoo was so hot and uncomfortable, we decided to try again last Friday. It was the opposite of hot which is much better in my book. Ethan loved riding around in his new wagon that Uncle Kevin and Aunt Shannon got him for his birthday. He loved it because the cooler with his food and drinks was riding in the wagon with him.
We had a lot of fun and Ethan really did like seeing the animals. He wanted to climb into the exhibits with them which we were about to let him do after awhile. Overall, it was a success and we look forward to going back next year.

Ethan insisted on reading the map for us...

and that is probably why we never knew where we were going.

Pumpkin Picking
We went to Mapleside last weekend to let Ethan pick his pumpkin. It was about 90 degrees and so crowded. We trudged down the big hill to where the festivities were going on and took some cute pictures and chose a pumpkin. We only got Ethan one because there was no way we were carrying anything heavier than his 25 cent pumpkin back up that hill.

Happy Birthday Ethan!
This is Ethan on his actual birthday. My parents and Kevin and Shannon came over and we had dinner and gave him a couple of his gifts. We got him this chair that he loves to sit in like a big boy and read his books.

We decided to do fire trucks for his birthday party. Ethan had such a great time eating his cake and opening his presents.

We just used a ton of balloons to decorate since Ethan loves playing with them and watching them blow around.

Here is Ethan trying to get Anna to ride on the back of his motorcycle with him. She just wanted to give him hugs. Jay will definitely need to keep an eye on her with the boys : )

Ethan thought it was just the greatest thing when he realized that everyone was singing Happy Birthday to him.

We had a smash cake with Elmo on it. Ethan loves to give Elmo kisses all of the time. Elmo on the cake needed kisses too.

He wasn't so sure about the frosting on the cake.

Mommy can try this first...

Once he realized there was cake inside that frosting, he went to town.

Ready for bed after a long day. Even though he doesn't look tired, he was exhausted. He gets very giggly when he is tired. It is very funny and hard not to keep playing with him to make him laugh.

One Year Ago Today
Ethan was born. I can't even believe he is one already. It has been an amazing year. It is crazy how much they change in such a short amount of time. He is almost walking on his own. He can do it but then he falls and is skiddish for awhile. For some reason every time he falls it seems to turn into a bloody nose. I am just glad that the last fall didn't result in blood on Michele's carpet, only his face. He was doing so good and going slow and then Daddy came to the door and he took off and tripped.
He is into everything and anything. He gets very mad when you tell him he can't have something. I don't think he could possibly stick his bottom lip out any further. He is also fighting his afternoon nap which can make for a long day...I don't think he wants to miss any of the action. Trust me, there is no action, as I would like to be sleeping during that time also. He just stands there and throws everything out of his crib and then cries until you come in and give it back. Yesterday he ran out of things to throw so he took his pants off and threw those out, too.
We are not sure yet what words he is really saying but he says a lot of them in his own little language. We do hear a few at the appropriate times though. He has started saying Mommy which makes me pretty happy. That goes along with him never wanting me out of his sight though. I can't even brush my teeth without him yelling for me. Joe just keeps reminding me how sad I was that he said Daddy first.
As always, here are his one year pictures that we had taken.

Day at the Park
It was a beautiful fall day last Saturday so we decided to take Ethan to the playground. He loves the slide but isn't so sure about the swings. Really, his favorite thing to do there is to sit and play in the mulch. I think he likes the slide so much because there is mulch at the bottom. We could have just stayed in our yard and let him play in the bushes if we would have known that.
